Plumber in Dieppe

Dieppe at a glance

Dieppe is a city on the Petitcodiac River that forms the southeastern part of Greater Moncton. It had 28,114 people in 2021, up 10.8 percent from 2016, making it the fourth-largest city in New Brunswick.

What that means for your plumbing

Growth that fast means many homes are new, with plastic supply lines, modern fixtures and newer hot water tanks. New doesn't mean trouble-free: loose fittings, failed supply hoses and missing shut-offs are common in the first few years. A quick check catches them; see fixture repairs.

Expanding boundaries

On January 1, 2023, Dieppe annexed parts of two neighbouring local service districts. Properties in newly added areas may have private wells or septic systems rather than city services. If you live on the edge of the city, find out which you have before a problem comes up.

From Leger's Corner to Dieppe

Acadian families were the area's first settlers, founding Sylvabreau in 1730, followed by the Melansons at Ruisseau-des-Renards in 1746 and the LeBlancs and Boudreaus at Chartersville in 1776. The community was long known as Leger's Corner. Residents adopted the Dieppe name in 1946, it became a town in 1952 and a city in 2003. Today it blends long-settled streets with new neighbourhoods. Where older homes have been renovated, newer pipe often meets original lines in the basement. Those joins are worth a look, and so is the age of the hot water tank. See tank age guide.
